Description

The Challenge in a Nutshell

Nutkhut seeks an Early Career Story Fellow to act as an editor, archivist and coach for the team as they translate their rich experience into academic knowledge. You will support the team to articulate and celebrate Nutkhut’s 21 years of innovation and enhance its legacy representation. With a strategic and curatorial approach, you will assist Nutkhut in refining and expressing their knowledge on themes such as adaptation and evolution within global diaspora communities, and the resilience and creativity of diaspora arts organisations as they blend cultural heritage with contemporary practices. You will embed research approaches into Nutkhut’s ways of working and will guide them to produce impactful, high-quality outputs about their unique history and approach to joyous performances and installations.

At the same time, you will undertake an exploration of the nature of editorial/supportive work in contemporary research and narrative production. Developing your own single-author piece, you will examine how supportive research and narrative production roles—such as editorial, archival, and coaching— mobilise Story Skills and cultivate an expanded, collaborative model of leadership.

You’ll be able to share your exceptional research skills, empowering Nutkhut to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. With expertise in editing, you refine content to enhance clarity and impact. You have a strong desire to support others, making you the ideal candidate to collaborate with Nutkhut to help showcase their knowledge on the importance of cultural blending in the arts.

About StoryArcs, and the Deep Story Leadership Platform

StoryArcs, supported by the AHRC, is a pioneering initiative that explores the transformative power of storytelling across sectors such as business, culture, and education. A key component of StoryArcs is the Deep Story Leadership Platform, which aims to empower early-career professionals in developing their Story Skills through impactful, real-world projects.

As part of the Deep Story Leadership Platform, your host placement will allow you to lead a project, using your unique vision and skills to create solutions that foster cultural change. You’ll refine your Story Skills through an immersive I-Story research space, receive mentoring, and engage in collaborative work with other Fellows.

Throughout your placement, you’ll reflect on your experiences, identify key skills, and contribute lasting insights. You will also have opportunities to showcase your work via our Narrative Exchange Channel and earn the prestigious StoryArcs Award.

Additional Information

Working Pattern, Location and Timeline

You’ll work remotely and flexibly as well as attending festivals and events. Your immersion in the Nutkhut-verse will span a maximum of 14 months where you will be employed by the University of the Arts London (UAL). For the first 12 months, you’ll dedicate approximately 2 days a week to your placement and 0.5 days to independent professional development as part of the Deep Story Leadership Platform. In the final 1-2 months, you’ll shift your focus to collaborating with the StoryArcs team, helping refine the Story Skill Set and reporting on outcomes.

Awards (Monetary and Course)

You’ll be employed as an Early Career Research Story Fellow by University of the Arts London on a salary of £37,999 pro rata (£18,999 per year at 0.5 FTE + London weighting), point 30 on the National Spinal Point scale. You will also gain acceptance into the Deep Story Leadership Platform, enabling you to work towards the prestigious AHRC StoryArcs Award. Additionally, the Deep Story Platform provides access to the StoryArcs Fellowship Community, our i-Story Research and Development Space, project support, and opportunities to showcase your work throughout your placement.
